Something that I feel that is greatly missing in Guild Wars 2 is an implementation of Hard Mode.. Guild Wars 1 had it as a mode that gave AI much more damaging skills and you had to go into a fight with a plan. I've always felt the game needed to be more challenging, I've always leveled up my characters in zones that are 9 levels higher than them because it presented a better challenge for myself (anything higher than 9 levels than you becomes invulnerable to your attacks).
Anyways, I think I've found a fun way to do it together! You can hide the User Interface by pressing Control + Shift + H and that way you only know if you need a heal by intuition or your character's sayings. This adds a whole new level of beauty to the game.. you are no longer keeping your eyes on the user interface but rather your eyes on the enemy and being an astute observer for the best time to dodge or attack.
I really enjoy playing like this as it feels like a different game and I'd love to dedicate one of my characters to playing exclusively in this "Hard Mode."
Better yet, I think this would be a very exciting way to play in a party! All players would have their UI turned off, only relying on voicechat, and their teammates to help them when they are in danger.
Exactly! This is for immersion, challenge, and teamwork! It probably won't be that difficult either, it really depends on the content we try to conquer.
I would join in on this, I use my fingers for most of the keys and such anyway so this would be a good challenge for me!Lynn
You just need to get to where you can talk to us on the mumble too because chat is part of the UI and we wouldn't be able to see you type information to us :-)
So, I'm going to spend the afternoon playing "Hard Mode" if anyone would like to join me on this adventure. I'm willing to make a new character for it and I thought some simple rules could be put in place:
You can only use your User Interface while in a racial city.
To communicate, use emotes or Voice Chat.
In a party, a player must revive you if you are defeated.
No waypointing.
That's pretty much it! That adds a lot of challenge while still letting you enjoy character progression. It's kind of akin to the Guild Wars 1 system where players could only change skills or traits in cities.
Let me know if you want to join in and make a character with me! I'd like to make a story for my character and and love to integrate that into another persons character story. Perhaps a Krewe? ;)
I won't be online for most of the evening tonite but I hope to be on some tomorrow.
I happen to have one unused character slot, plus one lvl 30, one lvl 26, and one lvl 20 characters available that have hardly seen 1% of Tyria so far.
My lvl 30 is an Asura mesmer who is supposed to be sort of an assassin; the lvl 26 and lvl 20 are supposed to be disillusioned Seraph who want to be mercenaries instead.
